Sundial from III. century, dedicated to Jupiter and Sol, from the site of Metulum near Josipdol, which for a number of years stood in front of the church in Josipdol, today is kept in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, while the plaster replica is part of the Archaeological Collection of the Ogulin Heritage Museum. Nine lines are engraved on the almost round cavity of the sundial. The central line is noon and the four lines on each side of it marked four hours before and after noon.

Contains the inscription:

I(OVI) O(PTIMO) M(AXIMO,/ SOLI INVIETO CONSER(VATORI)/AVGU(STI) N(OSTRI)

(To Jupiter, the best, greatest, invincible sun, guardian of our emperor)

Sol Invictus ("Invincible Sun") was the sun god of the state religion of the Roman Empire, whose cult was established by Emperor Aurelian in 274, and who continued to overshadow other Eastern cults due to his importance. Many other sun gods were also called "Sol Invictus" before and during this period. The name "Sol Invictus" also appears on coins of the Roman Empire.
